Costume Beach Volleyball Tournament A Top South Bay Summertime Party Event

One of the summertime highlights of the South Bay Beach Cities is here.
Smackfest 2018 is Saturday, July 14.
It’s two weeks earlier than its traditional end-of-July date, so PubClub.com is providing this “hey it’s this weekend!,” party alert.
The teams are sold out but if you want to play, then contact Smackfest Events to see if you can get on a team.
Otherwise, just head to the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier and enjoy the fun.
Smackfest is a free event and it starts when you get there and ends when you leave. It’s an all-day beach party involving a couple hundred of co-ed teams and about a thousand people playing – or in the case of some, attempting to play – beach volleyball.
Each team has a theme and are dressed in costumes with pop-up tents lined up along the courts. It’s pretty funny to watch some of them trying to hit a volleyball dressed as, say a Rubix Cube.
A DJ plays pumping music and sponsors tents are giving away items such as energy bars. There is also some serious beach volleyball taking place but mainly it’s a silly, fun day for everyone in the South Bay (and beyond, for it’s free to attend and there are no grandstands).
As usual, look for PubClub.com to be there covering the event, taking photos and video for posting on the website and social media.
Do keep in mind that it is illegal to drink alcohol on California beaches and the Hermosa Beach PD does patrol the area.
The official daytime party bar is Sharkeez. Team member have a post-event party at The Deck and later, Joe’s Band is playing the official post-post event party at Standing Room. This is open to everyone, no cover.
