Costume Beach Volleyball Party – Er, Tournament – Details

Registration is open for the 24th annual Smackfest presented by Michelob Ultra & Smack Sportswear. This unique beach volleyball tournament – one of the highlight events of the summer in the Los Angeles South Bay Beach Cities – is Saturday, July 14 on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier.
To play, you need to have a team, coed 4s with two divisions: pro and “fun.” It’s $180 for a team of four with $25 for each other team member. There is no maximum number of team members in the “fun” division.
However, after the first day all spots for “fun” division teams had sold out, so if you want to play you had better find a team captain and beg to join his or her tea.
Team themes and costumes are, of course, all part of the fun. What will we see this year!?
Team members get wristbands for a free pitcher of Michelob Ultra at Sharkeez, a goody bag with tons of free swag, all-day Happy Hour at Sharkeez, The Deck, and Tower 12 + Post party at The Deck and Standing Room (Joe’s Band).
As always, the first teams that signup get best courts, plus a Smackfest t-shirt and hat. There is also a raffle for a free Smackfest entry to one team out of the first 100 who signup (to be credited back their entry fee).
PubClub.com will post more about 2018’s event, and if you want to tell us in advance your team theme, we highly encourage you to do so in the comments section of this post.
This is a very fun event and it’s free and open to spectators. More than 700 people participate on the teams and another 300-500 locals turn out to mingle and watch the action, which is not always confined between the lines on the volleyball courts.
It is important to note there is no drinking on the sand in California, so that’s why the Hermosa Beach bars are so busy during the day and into the night.
