Live Music, A Beer Garden, USC & UCLA Kickoffs & A Club Crawl
It’s Labor Day Weekend and while it’s kind of a bummer that it signals the end of summer, you might as well go out by going all out, right!? Here’s where to go and where to be so you can have an end-of-summertime blast in L.A.
Fiesta Hermosa 2018
A three-day street festival in this lively beach city features two stages of bands, the usual arts and crafts booths, a beer garden and about 10,000 fun people of the South Bay. It goes all day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. As a bonus, it’s college football opening weekend and if you want to start early on Saturday with breakfast and an hour of bottomless mimosas, American Junkie is the Ohio State bar (kickoff, 9 a.m.). Parking sucks so take Lyft or Uber (plus, I know you’ll be drinking anyway).
Beach Boys At LA Fleet Week 2018
Fleet Week presented by Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video is a salute to the nation’s “sea services” at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. It features flyovers, a walk/run over the Vincent Thomas Bridge, the 100 Years of Navy in Hollywood Film Festival and to really make it “Fun, Fun, Fun” the Beach Boys Military Appreciation Concert presented by Annenberg Foundation on Saturday. This is a series of bands leading up to Southern California’s iconic lifestyle musicians, followed by a laser show. It takes place from 5-10 p.m., at the Bob Hope USO Delta Air Lines stage. You do need to have a free ticket in advance and while those have been distributed, it never hurts to poke around while you’re on site. Plus, there’s other bands performing on Saturday and Sunday.
Fleet Week, by the way, is free.
Fleet Week starts Aug. 31 and runs thru Labor Day.
Hollywood & Downtown LA Nightlife Club Crawl
How does this sound: a club crawl in DTLA and Hollywood aboard a party bus? Heck yeah! There are crawls on Friday and Saturday nights and they include four bars and a host to take you right into the clubs. DTLA bars include Exchange LA and the Reserve, while in Hollywood there’s OHM, Project Club LA and W’s Station Hollywood. You not only get into the clubs, but there are free drinks and drink specials for the group. Plus drinking games! Tickets are just $20-30.
White Party At The Hollywood Rosevelt Hotel
This is not just a white party but a white pool party! Tickets are $50. 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Free party bus from Hermosa Beach.
Rooftop Pool Party At Shade Hotel
Speaking of pool parties, there is one of the rooftop of Shade Hotel in Redondo Beach overlooking King Harbor Marina on Sunday afternoon. It’s Vegas pool-party style with a DJ and a bar. 1-7 p.m. Tickets are $20.
LA County Fair 2018
This gigantic event has everything you would expect from a big-city fair: rides, carnival games, giant turkey legs and crazy junk food and concerts. It also has wine and spirits tasting and – get this – 52 beer stations.
College Football – USC & UCLA
Yes, it’s college football kickoff weekend! Both USC and UCLA play on Saturday. The Trojans face UNLV in the Coliseum starting at 1 p.m. It’s also on the Pac-12 Network if you get that station and don’t go to the game. The Bruins host the Bearcats of Cincinnati in the Rose Bowl at 4 p.m. That game is being televised by ESPN. Tickets should not be hard to come by on site at either game.
Made In L.A. Music & Arts Festival At A Los Angeles Brewery
There’s a golden road to a two-day music and arts festival at Golden Road Brewery on Saturday and Sunday. There are local artists and vendors, as well as Golden Road brews, including specialty beer releases. This is a ticketed event, $10 each day.
