Beatles & U2 Tribute Bands Plus Shari ‘El” Puorto To Perform At Sunday Shows In July & August

It takes a lot for people to spend a Sunday afternoon and early evening in this town at some place other than in the sand and Pacific Ocean.
But hundreds to in Manhattan Beach because of the free concerts somewhat inland in Polliwog Park. It proves that, contrary to those bumper stickers that were once popular in the area, that there is, after all, life across PCH. The 2017 concerts start on July 10 and run into Labor Day Weekend.
Here’s the entire schedule of acts for 2017:
• July 9 – Pine Mountain Logs, one of the all-time South Bay favorite bands
• July 16 – Blue Breeze Band (Motown, R&B, Blues & Jazz)
• July 23 – Mark Mackay Band (country & rock cross-over)
• July 30 – Hard Day’s Night (Beatles Tribute)
• Aug. 13 – Shari “El” Puorto (local blues/rock singer)
• Aug. 20 – Hollywood U2
• Aug. 27 – Lynettee Skynyrd (female Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band)
• Sept. 3 – Colour My World (Chicago tribute band)
The concerts are free, are in a kind of tiered amphitheater with a pond in the background, and are full-on picnics. People come in lawn chairs, bring small tables, spread out blankets and put out the spreads of food.
But if you forget food, or don’t have a chance to run to Trader Joe’s a couple blocks up Manhattan Beach Blvd., then there’s pizza for sale from Fresh Bros.
Wine consumption is huge, as you can probably imagine. And you don’t have to hide it, for consumption of alcohol is allowed. “Drink responsibly,” is the mantra.

And folks, please do so in order for this privilege to continue well into the future!
The concerts start at 5 and end at 7, which is prefect because it gives you time to head down to the Pier and catch the summer sunsets, which take place around 7:45.
Parking, for those who drive and not arrive by foot or bike, is on the street or in a couple of lots, the biggest of which is just northwest of the park.
The crowd, it must be stated, is primarily couples and families. It’s not the singles scene as happens with the Hermosa Beach Summer Concerts, which also run Sundays.
Still, when the concerts get acts like the wildly popular Pine Mountain Logs for those who have been around long enough to remember the “Last Chance Saloon” days of Harry O’s, then it’s a fun party scene.
