Dig It In These Downtown Bars During The Wimbledon Of Beach Volleyball

We all know about Shellback Tavern as the “off-the-beach” bar, where people line up to go inside and pound down pitchers of beer during AVP weekend for the Manhattan Beach Open.
But just up the street another party is taking place. Shark’s Cove – which during the 6-man was a clone of the fun and wild days at the original Sharkeez – is hosting AVP parties all weekend.
It is the “official” AVP post-party bar and we all know what that means: it’s going to be nuts in the place!
It’s guys in board shorts and no shirts (tho please put them on!), girls in bikinis dancing on the booth benches by the wall and an all out “hey we’re in college again and it’s Spring Break!,” atmosphere. There’s a DJ playing the fun party music and several tables have been pulled out, turning that middle area into a makeshift dance floor.
As is the case with Shellback, there’s likely to be a line to get into the place, so my advice is to get off the beach quickly and make your way to either one of these bars. And actually, having two bars with this cut-loose fun is good because it doubles your opportunity to hit a lively bar after the tournament.
And you can always go to one first (say Shellback) and then the other.
It’s kind of like the old days when we had Beaches and Shellback. Beaches is now Strand House, of course, and it’s also good on AVP weekend. It’s just that you’re more likely to see girls drinking champagne there, while at Shark’s Cove and Shellback it’s beer (and shots) for the bikini babes.
Cheers!
