My first thought when I saw the price to register for the 2023 Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K was that $55 is a lot to pay for two beers in the beer garden.
Would you pay $27.50 for a beer anywhere? Not even Vegas clubs are that expensive.
To be fair, there is a lot more to the run than the beer garden, but for South Bay’s social singles, it is the clear highlight of the event. And early planners paid $40 before Sept. 7. But now, the price is $55.
It takes place on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday, which in 2023 is Feb. 12. And it’s just not a 10K; there is a 5K, a 1K walk, and more. There was a time it was the second-largest 10K on the West Coast with some 10,000 runners. People dress in costumes and sometimes in groups. One year, PubClub.com organized a group that wore decorated Sharkeez buckets on our head. We would have won the costume contest but nobody wanted to wake up an hour early to enter it.

The course is a beautiful one, going down palm tree-lined Catalina Ave., going along the Esplanade, and returning to the start line on Harbor Drive. The post-race beer garden is in Seaside Lagoon.
The Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K is definitely a fun event and it sets the tone for a super Super Bowl Sunday in the South Bay. But is it worth $55? That’s up to you to decide.
