A Taste Of Munich At Bay Club Redondo Beach, CA

No, it was not Munich (hardly, but what else is, quite frankly) or even Alpine VIllage Oktoberfest in neighboring Torrance. But it was outdoor, there were great-looking girls in barmaid outfits, several guys in lederhosen and it was hot, hot hot, especially at the end when Joe’s Band was playing “Hot, Hot, Hot.”
Some 400 people attended with a good almost 50/50 mix of mostly single girls to guys in ages ranging from late 20s to the typical South Bay “never out of college and don’t ask my age” locals.
Put on by Smackfest Events – which debuted a successful wine & beer festival at the same location back in May and will do more in the future – and local promoter guru Berry Bly, it was fun, lively and a good party scene.
Two areas were utilized at Bay Club at the fenced-in recreation area.

The first was a half dozen beer tents and food from Kincaid’s and Pedon’s pizza (for purchase; VIPs got one hour free lobster mac ‘n cheese from Kindaid’s) while the other area had shaded picnic tables (hey, kind of like the real Oktoberfest!), a stage for Joe’s Band and a small VIP area with another shaded area plus sangria from Santa Rosa and vodka drinks from new vodka maker Hollywood.
The one negative was that the event was apparently more popular than the beer providers predicted, for they all ran out of beer about an hour before the end of the event. Until more was brought in, the only alcohol available was the sangria and vodka drinks in the VIP tent.

The beer vendors probably brought the same amount of beer they did for the May festival but with fewer vendors pouring, their supply went quickly, especially on a very warm weekend afternoon.
Still, it was a successful festival and an afternoon of fun people having a blast drinking beer, and of course that made for a good beer-drinking day.
