A Cajun Cooking ‘Games, Hooch, Crawfish and Beer’ Party In The Valley

With practically every other place in town hosting Kentucky Derby viewing parties and Cinco de Mayo celebrations, the Thirsty Merchant restaurant in Los Angeles is celebrating another major event on Saturday, May 5: Week 2 of Jazzfest in New Orleans.

Billing it’s Big Easy-themed big day as “Games, Hooch, Crawfish and Beer,” it’s Crawfish with all the fixins’ (corn, mushrooms, onions, and sausage). The party features beer, hooch and games such as bocce ball.

Admission to the event is free with the party beginning at noon and the Crawfish cooking starting at 2 p.m. The price of the boil is $21 per pound.

The Louisiana crawfish boil is a Cajun classic.

Tying this into Jazzfest in New Orleans helps the new restaurant differentiate itself from other places focusing on the Derby and Cinco de Mayo. On stage at Jazzfest on this day in Nawlens is Jack Johnson, Rod Stewart Khalid, Bonnie Raitt, Common and The Fabulous Thunderbirds with a tribute to Fats Domino.

That’s the music, along with Zydeo, that you’ll probably be hearing at the Thirsty Merchant.

And it’s unlikely while you’re there that you will need to implement PubClub’s Top Jazzfest Survival Tips.

Of course, if you want to show up in your Derby hat or Sombereo, that’s fine, too. Kentucky Derby post time is 3:30 p.m. Thirsty Merchant is located in Valley Village.

Address & Map: 12430 Riverside Drive, Los Angeles
