Upscale Dining & Casual Options At The Portola Hotel & Spa
If you’re in Monterey on holiday and are wondering where you can get a good turkey dinner for Thanksgiving, two places are providing the appropriate stuff for so you can stuff yourself.
The Portola Hotel and Spa and Peter B’s Brewpub at the back of the Portola are each have Thanksgiving dinners. One is a more formal place with an elegant atmosphere while the other is casual, making it ideal for those wanting to enjoy some homemade craft beers and watch the day’s football games.
Portola’s Thanksgiving Feast
The Portola’s Grand Ballroom has a menu consisting of California cheeses and cured meats, carved turkey, prime rib and maple glazed country ham, traditional thanksgiving fare, and a dessert display with classic pumpkin and pecan pie.
There is also a dessert buffet. The price is $54.95 for adults, $39.95 for seniors, 25.95 for children 6-12 and children 5 and under are free.
There’s live music by David Conley on the piano, the football games are on and dinner is serving from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

A Casual & An Inexpensive Dinner Paired With Craft Beers & Football At Peter B’s
For a more casual approach, Peter B’s is serving a traditional thanksgiving dinner with turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and a slice of pumpkin pie. The price is just $14.99.
Peter B’s full menu will also be available all day with Happy Hour from 4- 6:30 p.m. Its $1 tacos will not be available that day. But who wants tacos when you can have a Thanksgiving feast like this for just 15 bucks?
Of course, Peter B’s has its own award-winning beers, as well as excellent wines on tap. Yes, wines on tap. There’s also a full bar.

There are three NFL games on Thanksgiving, by the way, the Vikings at the Lions (9:30 a.m.) , the Redskins at the Cowboys (1:30 p.m.), and the Steelers at the Colts (8:30 p.m.). There is also a college game, LSU at Texas A&M at 4:30 in a game that could decide the future coaching situations of both teams.

Holiday Ice Skating My The Bay
Here’s something else cool at the Portola. Or right behind it, actually.
There’s an ice skating rink called Ice Skating By The Bay at Custom House Plaza. It’s open from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., including holidays (Noon-8 on Sundays. The cost is $13 for adults and $11 for children. Skate rental is $3. This is a way to make room for a big turkey dinner or to work off some of it.
