
Put on the Buffett – “Margaritaville” is quite appropriate – slide into your flip flops and head to any of these bars and restaurants in San Diego for National Margarita Day.
The celebration of this famous cocktail is Feb. 22, which in 2026 is on a Sunday. Just be careful not to get too wasted away as you find yourself in Margaritaville, which Buffett often described as being “wherever you want it to be” because its not an actual place but “a state of mind.”
Here’s where the party in San Diego for National Margarita Day.
In the Gaslamp Quarter, Hasta Mañana Cantina features a Hibiscus Mezcal Margarita ($16), a vibrant mix of mezcal, organic hibiscus, agave, lemon, and chili. The Smoking Gun featurees the Hot Mess ($13.88), a blend of Blanco Tequila with red chili liqueur, honey, lemon, serrano bitters and grapefruit zest. At barleymash, there’s the Afternoon Delight ($17), a heat-kissed tequila cocktail built with Cazadores Reposado, juicy pineapple, jalapeño, agave, and fresh lime, finished with a Tajín rim. Opt for a smokey finish by adding 400 Conejos Mezcal. It’s bright, fiery, and just dangerous enough to make you start singing “Margaritaville.” Naturally, Margaritaville is having a party with margarita stations serving diferent types of the frozen (and non-frozen) concoctions, a DJ (11 a.m-2 p.m.), a mariachi band (2-3 p.m.), $5 “Blender Cup Specials” and discounted refills, tho PubClub.com was not able to determine exact prices. It goes from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Nearby in Barrio Logan, Fonda del Barrio features a quintet of margaritas – all for $10 – on its cocktail menu from Lead Bartender Rudy Corona. Selections include Cucumber Jalapeño, Watermelon Mint, Mango Chili, and the Niña Fresa with strawberry and lime mix. You can also get select margaritas for just 7 bucks as Fonda del Barrio, which features ancestral Mexican cuisine, is having its regular Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m.
Sandbar Sportsbar & Grill in Mission Beach is serving the Guava-Rita ($15), a refreshing, tropical-forward margarita bursting with juicy guava flavor and bright citrus notes.
In Pacific Beach, The Duck Dive has the Take Me To Mexico ($14) refreshing escape cocktail, which is a blend of Olmeca Altos Plata infused with watermelon, jalapeño, and basil, fresh lemon, and agave.
The Colorful History of the Margarita
Nobody really knows when or where the margarita was created. It could have been at one of two places in Baja, Mexico, in California or at a house party. Some others say it was invented in Mexico City. One thing is for sure, the history of the margarita is as colorful as the drink itself!
