Box Office Opens May 13; Opening Day Is Friday, July 15

It opens at 10 a.m.
Opening Day 2016 is not on a Wednesday as is traditional, but instead on a Friday, which is July 15. Tickets are $10, $20 for clubhouse (recommended). You don’t need to get these tickets in advance of Opening Day; you can do so at the gate.
On all other race days, the tickets are $6 and $10, respectively.
Del Mar’s 2016 season runs thru Sept. 5, but it is Opening Day that is the track’s biggest draw of the year.
In fact, it’s one of San Diego’s top social events, a day when many of the city’s top singles turn out to enjoy a festive afternoon in the sunshine, make a few bets, drink lots of margaritas and other cocktails out of plastic shakers, socialize with other singles and, while they are at it, watch a few horses race around the track.
A highlight is the afternoon hat contest, not so much for who wins but to see the lovely ladies in their creative wardrobe choices while, of course, you have a shaker of margaritas or other cocktail in hand.
More than 50,000 people turn out for Opening Day, practically swamping the facility, so be patient for things like drinks at the bar, getting food and using the restrooms.
But it’s this large number of people that make Opening Day a “must-do” happening on the annual San Diego social and singles calendar.
Tickets to the limited-capacity three trackside restaurants, Clubhouse Terrace, Stretch Run Grill and Cafe del Sol, went on sale via a lottery back in April. But don’t worry – most of the singles action is in the general admission areas.
To purchase tickets, go to the track’s website: www.dmtc.com.
