There’s kind of an odd thing with San Diego locals. They go out in the Gaslamp Quarter but often hesitate when going past a certain street – Eighth or Ninth Ave., seems to be the norm – into what is called the East Village part of downtown.
What they probably don’t realize it that they are likely already in the East Village, for the Gaslamp Quarter only goes from Third to Sixth Ave. So when they are past Sixth Ave., say at Petco Park for a Padres game or a concert, they are technically in the East Village.
“One of the best things about summer in East Village is how easy it is to explore everything on foot,” said Dominic Li Mandri, District Manager of East Village Association. “You can grab a bite, catch live music, hit a happy hour, and shop local, all within a few walkable blocks. It’s a great way to support our neighborhood businesses while enjoying everything downtown San Diego has to offer.”
This part of the city certainly has a lot worth exploring and here’s how to discover what for some might be some “hidden gems” in San Diego.
