Petco Park is hosting a very special event, an Elton John San Diego concert. It takes place on Friday, May 9. The concert goes from 8-10 p.m.
It’s special because the Rocket Man officially retired from touring in 2023 but still plays one-off sets from time to time. His San Diego show is called Concert for Cures, a benefit concert raising awareness and funds for innovative cancer research.

To help launch the Rocket Man’s show, Borrego Rooftop Kitchen + Cocktails has created a specialty cocktail for the occasion. The “Tiny Dancer”is a glittering drink made with huckleberry vodka, lemonade and blueberry puree with edible glitter and garnished with a mini disco ball. So after you’ve let the sun go down on you, then you can get in the Crocodile Rock mood at Borrego, which looks directly into Petco Park. You can stay there and keep an eye on the crowd so you know the best time to be a Honkey Cat and head to the show.
Just keep in mind that Friday night is not alright for fighting.
Since its launch in 2022, Concert for Cures has raised more than $8.5 million towards Curebound’s $43 million investment in early-phase adult and pediatric cancer research among Southern California’s top research institutions. Previous headliners include Alicia Keys with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and Ed Sheeran performing to sold-out crowds at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park.
Tickets for the show start at $128.
John has a new album, Who Believes In Angels, which is out now.
