Will SD Earn A Spot In The Top NYE Party Destinations List?
Since it’s like New Year’s Eve every Friday and Saturday night anyway, PubClub.com – the world’s leading authority on NYE party destination – has decided it will spend the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020 in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
PubClub has been to New Orleans, Vegas and the Caribbean for New Year’s but never San Diego. Having lived in Los Angeles for many years, that is NOT the place to be for NYE yet ironically, America’s Finest City has never been a consideration. I even mentioned it to an LA friend and she said “hmmm. Never thought of San Diego.”
So San Diego it is, and I know it will be a great NYE destination. A manageable, mini-Vegas is what I am expecting from it.
There are fireworks over the bay (there are fireworks over the bay, right; I’ve heard conflicting reports) and there is awesome nightlife in the Gaslamp Quarter. On any given weekend night, 5th Avenue is like NYE, with people crowding the sidewalks and filling up the bars, pedicabs with blasting party music rolling up the street and lively activity spilling out onto the side streets, particularly lower 4th Ave.
Some places will be impossibly crowded – Barleymash at the corner of 5th and Market and the other bars on that block have long lines on normal weekends and if the Omni nightclub is anything like it was on Halloween night then you had better arrive early and bring an abundance of patience with you – but others will me merely lively and rocking.
I would like to go to The Field for its Irish band, Trailer Park After Dark for it’s let-the-inhibitions-go party atmosphere and perhaps Tin Roof, which always gets birthday and bachelorette parties.
Or anywhere else I can get into and get a beer. The choices are overwhelming because in the Gaslamp, even the restaurants turn into pumping bars at night. Finding a fun bar to party in will not be a problem in the Gaslamp on New Year’s Eve.
And the biggest question of the night will be quickly answered: will San Diego be worthy of making PubClub.com’s list of Top New Year’s Eve Party Destinations?
