Not everything is expensive these days.
Here is something that might just be the best entertainment and nightlife deal in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
It’s the all-year ticket from Mad House Comedy Club. The cost of a single show is $15 and $30 and for that same $30 you can go for free the rest of the year. It’s called the Mad House Annual Pass.
What’s the catch? None, really. There are occasional blackout dates but that’s about it. To use, just e-mail the club ahead of time to get on the list and reserve your seat at a table.
The Mad House Comedy Club has two shows on weekend nights and you can go to both, as long as you reserve a spot. Each show rolls out comics on an assembly line, five or six boom-boom-boom style. Some are good, some really good and some not very good. But hey, it’s basically a free night full of comedy and you WILL laugh.
Drinks are bar prices – $10 for a San Diego craft beer, $12-15 for a cocktail – and there is food, as well.
This is extremely convenient. After all, how many times do you and friends say “what are we going to tonite/this weekend?” With the season pass, you can always say “let’s go to the comedy club!” It’s free except for the drinks and food if you eat there.
The Mad House Comedy Club is on the corner of 4th & F Street, about a block from the more famous Laugh Factory with its several locations across the country. Tickets for the Laugh Factory are $22; which is also a bargain for nightlife entertainment in San Diego. The word on the street is that Laugh Factory gets better comedians. It always has a line on weekends whereas that’s not always the case with the Mad House Comedy Club.
But heck, $30 for pretty much unlimited comedy shows for the rest of 2023 is hard to pass on; in fact it’s pretty much of a no-brainer for locals.
