Wearing Masks Not Required During Exercise
By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com San Diego Blogger
One day after the county of San Diego declared that all residents must wear face covering while in public, San Diegans were out on a sunny weekend to stretch their legs and get some exercise.
And not all had a mask. In fact, by PubClub.com’s observation, about 40% were without face protection.
To be clear, the rule only calls for someone to have on a mask if they are within six feet of a stranger (or technically, someone whom is not living with you). However, it is recommend that people have a face covering with them when they do come within six feet of someone. And coverings are not required for people who are out walking, running and exercising.
It was hard not to come within six feet of a stranger on a late Saturday morning along the walkway that runs along San Diego Bay by the convention center. While hardly packed, there were several dozen people out running, walking, walking dogs, doing workouts (some with a trainer) and biking along the path.
All these people were active and moving, which is something officials are requiring in order keep the beaches open. People were not sitting on beaches or even sitting in the small grass park by the Hilton and in front of the yachts docked in the bay.
The only time they paused was to catch their breath.
The Convention Center steps remain the most active area, as has been the case for weeks.
During my run, I saw two police officer on bikes observing the scene.
I also say someone riding a bike fully complying with the face coverings order and then some. He or she was dressed in a unicorn costume.
