Last Call For Alcohol Given By Mayor Kevin Faulconer
On Monday afternoon before St. Patrick’s Day, a couple sat on the patio of Barleymash each enjoying a glass of wine.
Inside, a half a dozen people were inside at the bar having drinks, and other establishments in the Gaslamp Quarter had a few customers, as well.
A few hours later, however, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer acted like a bartender at closing time and ordered “last call” as he took the same action as mayors at other cities around the USA had done and shut down bars and restaurants.
Faulconer made an announcement on Monday afternoon – about three hours after that couple was enjoying their wine – prohibiting gatherings of 50 people or more, all bars and businesses that serve alcohol only shall close, all restaurants and establishments that serve food can only provide pick-up and delivery service.
This will be enforced by police patrols and those found in violation of the new rule will be subject to a fine.
They day before, PubClub posted this story on bars on the Gaslamp being open – for now. A walk around the Gaslamp today revealed a few people eating in restaurants and drinking in bars. Things were not busy but they never are in the daytime, and by appearance, all seemed normal in San Diego.
But the mayor’s announcement changed that, joining cites and states around the USA and around the world, as well.
PubClub.com will continue to provide updates as necessary.
