– Loverboy, Working For The Weekend
By Kevin Wilkerson, PubClub.com San Diego Blogger
Yes, it’s the weekend and that means it’s party time! This is the PubClub.com San Diego Weekend Party Report, featuring Robyn Spencer, Experience Director at Tavern + Bowl and Co-Chair of the East Village Association’s District Identity and Placement Committee. That’s a long title so I just call her the Queen of the East Village.
The beers in the video, by the way, are from San Diego craft brewery Mission Brewing. It has a tap room – with tours that include beers! – in the East Village at 131 14th St. We are drinking the brewery’s IPA which, on the newly-crearted PubClub.com Volume Drinkability Scale of 1-10, is a 10. It tastes fantastic and goes down so smooth you can drink several of them at once, making this a perfect beer choice for a full night on the town.
Okay so onto this weekend’s top San Diego events, including Sting & Billy Joel and Petco Park and fun happenings and Happy Hours at East Village bars.
Yes, Sting an Billy Joel are playing here, on Saturday night. It’s supposedly sold out (but you know what that means) tho I just found a ticket for a by-today’s-standard reasonable $130 on Ticketmaster.
And that’s just the start of the party. Here’s a rundown of where to go out party and see and be seen in East Village San Diego this weekend.
- Tavern + Bowl will be hosing Disco Night every Friday so grab those bell bottoms for a night on the town.
- With an extensive menu, sports packages, bowling lanes, and a fun and upbeat atmosphere, Tavern + Bowl is a great spot to hit on the weekend.
- Storyhouse Spirits has a daily happy hour from 4-6 p.m., serving up a variety of cocktails made with Storyhouse Spirits including Seaside Vodka, Cucumber + Lemon Vodka, California Dry Gin, California Coastal Gin, Straight Bourbon, Straight Rye.
- R Place Sports Bar & Grill has a daily happy hour from 3-6 p.m. It also has drink specials on Saturday, including a $9 Saturday Mai Tai and $12 Jameson + Guinness as well as $5 White Claws on Sundays.
- Quartyard will be hosting Disco Get Down-Dog, a 70s inspired Yoga Fit class with DJ Slothyyy spinnin’ vinyl, from 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday, April 13. That night, from 5 pm to 10 pm, stop by for the Cowgals and Cowbois R&B Block Party and dance along to blue eyed soul, 70’s Jams, R&B Fusion, Hip Hop, Dance Hall Reggae & Afrocentric/Caribbean Beats.
- Moonshine Flats will also be energizing the community all weekend long and will be hosting Coriander, an award winning high-energy, dance-driven cover band, on Saturday night.
- Punch Bowl Social will also be hosting crowds over the weekend who can play a verity of games including bowling, ping pong, foosball, cornhole, darts shuffleboard and so much more!
- Other popular night out venues in East Village include Social Tap, Half Door Brewing, Ale Tales Taproom, Fairweather, Mission Brewery.
The weather this weekend is blah, but the Masters golf tournament is taking place so sports bars like Tavern + Bowl will be showing it. Tiger Woods, at +1, made the cut. He’s looking like an old man these days, tho! The Masters, by the way, is known as the “toughest ticket in sports.”
And starting Sunday, bartenders, bar owners, bar managers, bar staff and spirits industry executives will be filling up San Diego bars for Bartender’s Weekend that runs through Tuesday.
