
Borrego Rooftop Kitchen + Cocktails, one of the top places in San Diego to watch Padres games, now has a Happy Hour.
Called “Sunset Social Hour,” it features discounts on beer, wine and shareable plates. It goes from 4-6 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays. Even when there is not a Padres game, Borrego Rooftop Kitchen at the Hotel Indigo in East Village provides great ninth-floor views of the San Diego city skyline. After the sun goes down, tableside fire pits make for a very comfortable setting. A DJ at night adds to its classy yet casual atmosphere.
The “Sunset Social Hour” features $6 draft beers, $4 off wines by the glass and $5 tacos. Locally-brewed beers include Ballast Point Swingin’ Friar Ale, Modern Times Radiant Glow hazy ale, Societe Brewing The Pupil and Coronado Brewing Co. Orange Ave. Wit and more. Borrego’s wine list includes sparkling, sauvignon blanc, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon, among others.

Taco options are grilled fish with spicy oil and cabbage; pollo asado with pickled onion, lime crema and cilantro; carnitas, braised pork shoulder with salsa verde, cabbage, pickled onion and chicharron; baked shrimp with cabbage, lime crema and cilantro; and nopales with corn, salsa macha and cilantro cream.
Borrego’s menu also includes selections from shareable dishes to platters. Highlights include seasonal ceviche with avocado, pickled red onions, passion fruit leche de tigre, lime and house-made tostadas; cochinita sliders made with slow-roasted pork shoulder and tomato-citrus marinade; and oversized platters of ribeye, halibut and maitake mushrooms served with house-made blue corn tortillas.

The resturant and bar is also having a special three-course menu Sunday, Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 29.For $35, it starts with a choice between the chipotle chicken Caesar with parmesan oregano croutons, boquerones and chipotle-garlic Caesar dressing; and the farm market salad made with artisan greens, garden herbs, cherry tomato, pepitas, onion, carrot and green goddess dressing. Main course selections include achiote-rubbed Baja shrimp skewers accompanied by beans and cilantro lime rice; and the classic Borrego quesadilla stuffed with chicken, corn and poblano white cheddar and drizzled with chipotle crema. The experience ends on a sweet note with chocolate ice cream, served with churros and topped with whipped cream.
Borrego is open from 4 to 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and from 4 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
