Creative Cocktails On The 46th Floor Of The Hilton Union Square
It’s one thing to be on San Fransisco’s streets, see its many landmarks such as curvy Lombard Street up close, ride the famous cable cars and even go into its many narrow bars.
And yet it’s quite another thing to be high above those streets. With a cocktail in your hand.
That’s what you get at Citiscape Lounge high up in the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. It’s high up, as in 46 floors above street level.
It’s not the only bar with a such view in the city, but it does stand out among them because of its cool layout of tiered seating along two rows of floor-to-ceiling windows on the two longest sides of the room. In other words, its a great layout to take advantage of those views.
Citiscape Lounge is not a wild San Francisco nightlife destination – there’s no dance floor with a DJ pumping out tunes, for example – but rather a place for conversations (it’s a dynamic place to take a date) and high-quality drinks.
Among the things that impressed me the most about Citiscape Lounge is the fact its liquor menu includes a dozen rums. It’s hard to find a good selection of rum in bars and with selections like Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask, Ron Zacapa XO and admittedly quite a few I had never heard of, it made selecting one an exciting endeavor.
You might think, then, that off its extensive and unique cocktails list, that I chose the Mai Passion (Zacapa 23yr Rum, passionfruit, orange orgeat) but instead I was persuaded by the waitress to try a rum and bourbon combination (well why not, right!?). It came in a flask.

There is no full menu at Citiscape Lounge, but you can get snacks.
Citiscape Lounge is open daily 4:30-midnight. Reservations are not accepted and seating is on a “oh, there’s a table, let’s grab it” basis. There is no cover charge and the dress code is business casual.
