Sonoma County Wine Country Also Affected By Northern California Wildfires
Brad Calkins, Executive Director of Visit Santa Rosa stated:
“At this time, our team at Visit Santa Rosa does not have an assessment of the damage caused by the fires in Santa Rosa and greater Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino counties. We know that our community has sustained losses and that many of our partners, friends and neighbors have been impacted.
“Our immediate priority is the safety and well-being of Santa Rosa’s residents and visitors and we encourage people to remain out of the evacuated areas until emergency responders confirm it is safe to return.
“With the state’s resources mobilized by Governor Brown’s declaration of a state of emergency, we trust fire containment will be swift and that recovery will begin quickly.
“Our community is resilient and we pledge Visit Santa Rosa’s utmost support to rapidly restoring the city’s thriving tourism sector and vibrant spirit.”
Santa Rosa – which PubClub.com refers to as “the Charlie Brown town” because of it has statues of Peanuts characters in the city due to its connection to Charles Shultz – is in eastern Sonoma County, which is where several fires are burning in the area.
Sonoma County tourism posted this message on its website for those who had travel plans to visit and to explore the area’s vast and popular wine country:
“If you’ve planned a trip to the area, please contact your lodging provider before traveling, to see if it’s located in an affected area. If you are flying into Sonoma County airport, please contact your airline to ensure commercial flights are operating.
“Sonoma County Tourism staff is assessing damages sustained to tourism businesses and will provide updates as more information is available.”
