Mermaid Festival, Key Lime Festival & Hemingway Days All Scheduled For July In The Conch Republic

The Conch Republic his hosting three in July, two on the same Fourth of July weekend. They are the Mermaid Festival (July 1-4), the Key Lime Festival (July 1-4) and the biggest of them all, Hemingway Days (July 20-25).
And here’s some more good news – Fantasy Fest is back for 2021! The dates are Oct. 22-31.
These events are very important to the local economy as the Conch Republic relies on tourism for jobs and the return of festivals bring in visitors to the Conch Republic at time outside of the prime tourist season.
They also help Key West keep its quirky personality. After all, What other destination has a festival for mermaids and another for a Pulitzer Prize-winning author that includes a look-alike contest and a staging of the Running of the Bulls using fake bulls?

• Mermaid Festival

Created by a local mermaid (okay, she runs a mermaid-themed shop) this involves a mermaid parade down Duval Street (of course) and a Saturday afternoon with mermaids featuring live music and entertainment in a mermaid-themed setting along the water.

Key Lime Festival

All things key lime. Four days of culinary events featuring key limes, including favorites from past years like the Key Lime Cocktail Sip & Stroll and Key Lime Pie Hop. This year’s event features new events, the Key Lime Scavenger Hunt and Key Lime University. Past events have included a key lime pie-eating contest.

Hemingway Days

Nearly a week of celebration to “Papa” who lived in the Conch Republic in the 1930s. The highlight events are the Hemingway look-alike contests on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at Sloppy Joe’s and the Running of the Bulls parade on Duval Street.
