Your Ship(s) Have Come In On Memorial Day Weekend In NYC
Set down your anchors, salute the Stars & Stripes and strike up the band(s).
It’s Fleet Week in New York City from May 25-May 30, and PubClub.com provides these highlights of the best events, including a free rock concert. All the events listed here are free, in fact, and open to the public.
In addition to what is listed below, there are free tours of the participating ships Thursday thru Monday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Lines are capped at 3 p.m.
• Fleet Week NYC Events Wednesday, May 25
Parade Of Ships – Signals the start of Fleet Week with the ships arriving into New York. The arrival is all day at various locations in and around NYC. The ships will be docked at Pier 88S in Manhattan; the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Brooklyn; and USS The Sullivans Pier in Staten Island.
Navy Band Concert – The Navy band plays at Pier A near Harbor House in Battery Park. 5 p.m.
• Fleet Week NYC Events Friday, May 27
Navy Band Concert In Times Square – The Navy Band Northeast is playing on Military Island in Times Square along wit the U.S. Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard Silent Drill Team. 5-6:30 p.m.
• Fleet Week NYC Events Saturday, May 28
Military Day At Battery Park – Band performances, military displays and demonstrations. 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Brooklyn Street Party – Pit on by VFW Post #5195, this is an all-day street party on Van Brunt Street. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Also in Brooklyn, there’s a concert by the U.S. Fleet Forces Brass Band at Brooklyn Bridge Park from 2-3 p.m.
Fleet Week Regatta – Liberty Harbor in Jersey City, put on by the Manhattan Yacht Club, with the finish line at the Statue of Liberty. 1-5 p.m.
• Fleet Week NYC Events Sunday, May 29
Liberty State Park Festival – Includes the U.S. Navy Parachute Team, the Leap Frogs, performance by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps bands, military demonstrations and displays. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Flagship Brewery Music Festival – The Flagship Brewery on Staten Island is hosting a festival with military and local bands. Starts at noon.
• Sailor Jerry Block Party – Rock band Cage The Elephant is performing as part of this American BBQ on Hudson River Park’s Pier 84. BLock party starts at 1 p.m., with the concert starting at 4:30 p.m. Go to SailorJerry.com to get your free tickets in advance.
Navy Band Concert In Times Square – Starts at 4 p.m.
• Fleet Week NYC Events Monday, May 30
Soldiers And Sailors Memorial Day Observance – This year’s event commemorates the 40th anniversary of the passing of WWII Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. It takes place at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, riverside Drive & 89th Street in Manhattan. 10 a.m.
Sailor Jerry ‘Home Base’
Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum will participate in official Fleet Week events including the annual Parade of Ships marking the arrival of ships to New York Harbor, a Welcome BBQ in Brooklyn, and many more. Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum has also created a “Home Base” at 348 West 44th Street that will serve as a one-stop source of activity for Service Members in town during Fleet Week.
Open Wednesday, May 25 thru Saturday, May 29 from Noon – 9 p.m., it features complimentary haircuts from Frank’s Chop Shop (available Wednesday and Thursday from 1-4 p.m.) and complimentary tattoos by Three Kings (available Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 1-4 p.m.
