Kentucky Derby Of The West Coast Requires Advance Planning For A Table

Del Mar Opening Day is a very fun Southern California event the third Wednesday of each July.
It’s also the most popular mid-week event in the entire state. More than 50,000 people go to it and it’s such a “must-do” event that the horse track that’s across the street from the Pacific Ocean must action off seats at its three trackside restaurants.
If you want a table at Clubhouse Terrace – Stretch Run Grill and Cafe del Sol for July 17 – you must to enter the on-line auction and fill out a form in order to be entered into a random drawing.
The entry dates are Monday, April 8-Wednesday Apr1il 10. Applications are accepted only from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The price of four-person tables is $200, and two person tables are $100. Track admission is extra, which $20 on Opening Day. It’s $10 on all other days. Doubling the price of admission is another admission of how popular Del Mar is on Opening Day. You can simply add this to your tab when you order your table during the auction. The Stretch Run, by the way, is an extra $10 ($6 when it’s not Opening Day).
All entrants will be notified by e-mail on Friday, April 12, of their selection status. If you are selected, you’ll have until noon on Wed, April 17, to call the ticket office to pay for your table.
The raffle also includes Pacific Classic Day on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Personally, I prefer to buy when I get there and walk around rather than sit down. But sitting does have its advantages, for you can use it as a “home base” throughout the day. And if you’ve got a group, it’s not a bad way to go, especially if you plan to eat because otherwise the concession lines are impossibly long on Opening Day.
