Fans Celebrate 2012 Championship With Stanley Cup Champions
Want to find the Stanley Cup?
All fans had to do was show up in downtown L.A., on Thursday and it came to them.
First, it was in a parade, free and open to the public. And then, it sat on the ice on Staples Center in a special ceremony for season-ticket holders and other lucky fans that was a rah-rah celebration of the franchise’s first National Hockey League championship.
More than 18,000 people were in Staples Center as Kings announcer Bob Miller introduced management and the players. As well as coach Darryl Sutter, who was relaxing on his ranch in Canada when he was called to the team in December. “Have fun,” Sutter told his players. “But stay out of trouble!”
Well, they MIGHT get into trouble, if they take the trophy out to the bars in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. Which is sure to be the case sometime during the next month. It’s already been to the Kings’ home bar, the North End, and PubClub.com also has reports of it making it to the Underground Pub before it ever appeared at the North End.
Goalie Jonathan Quick, the Stanley Cup MVP, apparently was partying a bit early on Thursday, as he was a bit loose-tongued during his comments in Staples Center. And the crowd loved it.
“I hope you are having as much fun with this as we are,” said Dustin Brown. “But I doubt it.”
The party has stated, and the Kings players and fans will make sure it continues into the summer.
