More Than 300 Manhattan Beach Young Professionals Mix and Mingle At This Successful Party

Generally speaking, cars and beer don’t go together. They are best kept separate.
But the creative folks with the Manhattan Beach Young Professionals (MBYP) paired the two together on an April evening. They hosted a beer festival at a car dealership, John Elway Toyota in Manhattan Beach, CA.
More than 300 people attended, there were a dozen beer stations, good food from local restaurants (pretty much everyone agreed the grilled chicken from Silvo’s in Hermosa Beach was the best), and two bands. It was clearly a success.

The beer was served in a small part of an open parking lot while the food and live music were inside. There was one hybrid car on display, but it was the only vehicle, for the event was not the main showroom (not a bad idea considering the chances of spillage of food and drink).
The most popular beers were those of Kona Brewing Co.; it’s easy to say this because there were always a dozen people gathered in front of this tent throughout the evening. Particularly in demand was Kona Brown Ale, a new brew which was just introduced in February that includes toasted coconuts in the recipe. Kona’s other selection was its Longboard Lager, which is becoming more prevalent as a tap choice around town.

As the evening ended, the keg for Shock Top blew, proving it was a popular beer choice, as well.
Afterward, the only cars people were seeking out were the many cabs lined up to take people either home or out to the Manhattan Beach bars. This was a great touch by the organizers to alert the cabbies; they know people here are responsible enough not to drink and drive, and providing easy access to taxis is a key element of everyone’s overall impression of an event.

After the beer festival – which was on Thursday, April 21 and ran from 6-9 p.m. – people ran across the street to Grunion’s sports bar, where they were treated to $3 drafts (including Stella) set up by the event organizers.
And what better way to finish off a beer festival than to have more beer!
Information on future events will be posted here in this article.
