Beaches & Lakes The Prime Places For Social Distancing Holiday Socializing

There are no Vegas pool parties, no three-day local festivals, no – gasp! – Indy 500 with its rockin’ Snakepit infield – but, done right, Memorial Day Weekend 2020 can and still will be a party all across America.
The COVID-19 lockdown orders are eased and while social distancing is definitely in play, people can still play on the beaches, in the lakes and at one of the most American of all activities, the backyard BBQ house party.
Memorial Day Weekend – May 23-25 – is as American as drinking cheap beer and after being on home lockdown since the middle of March, Americans are itching to get out and do the things that are part of the normal activity of life in this country.
Here are some places in the USA that will have a good party scene, social distancing style. Note that they are recreational areas and not big cities; people and officials are still being cautions and people will need to do the same throughout the three-day weekend.
• Geist Reservoir, Indianapolis
Bikinis and boats make up the party scene here on this lake and with the Indy 500 delayed until August, it’s going to be one of American’s most lively Memorial Day party locations.
• Lake Travis, Austin, Texas

A similar scene to Geist Reservoir, tho the traditional boat tie-up part in Devil’s Cove will have the party people anchoring apart from one other instead of right next to each other, but none-the-less jumping in the water and drinking on the boats.
• San Padre Island, Texas
This spot has a big-time beach and party scene, which will heat up, tho it won’t quite be as hot as the weather due to the coronavirus.
• Clearwater, FL
Famous for the Spring Break video showing people on the beach, this central west coast beach is a popular spot for people from Tampa and St. Pete.
• Jacksonville, FL
This was one of the last beaches in the USA to shut down and one of the first to re-open (Jax actually has two beaches, by the way) and people here love going to play and party on the sand, in the water and in the social distance-enforced restaurants and bars.
• Panama City Beach, FL
This panhandle beach next to Destin may get a few college students from Alabama and Auburn. If not here then you’ll see a few of them and other “we’re ready to party” folks a hundred or so miles to the west at Gulf Shores, Alabama.
• Mission Beach/Pacific Beach, CA
California has been among the most cautious of states during COVAD-19, and a lot of beach residents are anxious to get back on the sand. As well as the walk/running/bicycling path that runs parallel to the sand and is the centerpiece of activity. The bike path here connects Mission Beach to its neighbor Pacific Beach and these combined beach towns are ripe for a party (2020’s style anyway). Expect to see a few social-distance house parties along the bike path in a in addition to a lively beach scene.
