Wild, yes. Wet and wild, probably.
As 2022 ends and 2023 begins, there are massive worldwide celebrations across the globe. And many of them from New York with with its famous Times Square ball drop to the first major bash in Sydney, will be wet. Rain is forecast for several of the world’s top New Year’s Eve destinations. So plan accordingly with your wardrobe because ball drops and fireworks shows are, of course, outdoors.
At least it will be warm: upper 40s in New York City, the 60s in New Orleans and upper 70s in Sydney, for example.
Here is the weather forecast for New Year’s Eve in PubClub.com’s Top 10 NYE destinations.
• #1 – New Orleans. PubClub’s top New Year’s Eve destination, which will be full of not just party people on Bourbon Street but a lot of Alabama Crimson Tide fans who know New Orleans well, will have rain both Friday and Saturday. Specifically, Friday night is calling for thunderstorms continuing into Saturday morning. And the Sugar Bowl kickoff is a ridiculous 11 a.m., local time. NYE night is mostly cloudy with a temperature of around 60 degrees.
• #2 – Sydney. With rain showing in the forecast, the lighthearted Aussie weather people describe it this way: “a shower or two.” There’s a 50% chance on Friday night and 60% chance on Saturday. Temps are a high of 77 with a low of 65.
• #3 – Berlin. While New Year’s Eve eve will be pleasant – temperatures in the low and mid-40s with sunshine – rain is forecast for not just Saturday but through Monday, as well. The good news is things warm up a bit with a high of 55 and a low of 52 on New Year’s Eve for the huge fireworks show at Brandenburg Gate.
• #4 – Las Vegas. This is the forecast according to Weather.com: “Rain early…then remaining cloudy with showers late. Low around 45F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.” The daytime high will be around 60 and then the clouds hang around for New Year’s Day – a really fun time to be in Vegas, by the way – with clouds.
• #5 – New York City. Like Berlin, Friday will be pleasant with sunshine and temperatures of 50/39. Then rain moves in for NYE tho the temps rise a bit and it will be about 45 for the Times Square ball drop. And if you’re going to be in Times Square for New Year’s Eve, you are likely going to be outside as all the bars around Times Square are already full with reservations.
• #6 – Rio de Janeiro. One of the world’s best warm weather New Year’s Eve destinations is under what is known as a “yellow alert,” meaning heavy rain and thunderstorms all week. Temperatures are not an issue, tho, with 79/73 the high and low on NYE. This is a wet and wild destination to be sure.
• #7 – Key West, FL. Now this is more like it – sunny and warm. Temps are in the upper and low 70s – perfect – with sunshine.
• #8 – British Virgin Islands. If you like things even warmer, head to the BVIs and specifically to Foxy’s bar for its annual NYE beach bash. Rain on Friday gives way to a week of sunshine and warmth (84/77) for the next three days.
• #9 – Amsterdam. Europe’s Sin City is wet. It’s raining as I write this and into the next week. The NYE temps are 54/49.
• #10 – Prague. While Friday, Sunday and Monday have sunshine, New Year’s Eve in Prague will be met with cloudy skies, which may obstruct the fireworks shows (they have small and big ones throughout Prague; get a good view from the Charles River Bridge or above the city at Letna Park). The temperatures are pretty good with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the upper 40s.
Happy New Year from PubClub.com!
