It’s a fun, full summertime in Los Angeles and there’s a full lineup of fun things happening the weekend of July 21-23, highlighted by the return of the AVP pro beach volleyball tour to Hermosa Beach.
In fact, the weekend even starts early with a number of activities and events taking place on Thursday, July 20. Here’s the full rundown that will keep you busy and entertained in L.A.
LOS ANGELES BEST WEEKEND EVENTS PICKS
• AVP Hermosa Beach
The pro beach volleyball tour returns to Hermosa after several years of missing this beach volleyball-mecca city. In fact, it’s not been here since 2010. Expect big crowds, as much for the volleyball as sun-seeking singles filling up the bars, especially the traditional AVP bar The Deck.
The event is free.
• FYF Fest
Once a small punk festival, this is now a huge three-day event at Exposition Park. There are some 50 acts – including Nine Inch Nails on Sunday – and lots of food for purchase from LA restaurants. Single-day tickets are $109-125 with a three-day past costing $329. Saturday single-day passes are sold out.

Smackfest Events is putting the ball in play for pro beach volleyball tournament by hosting a AVP Kickoff Party. Sharkeez Hermosa is serving up drink specials including $4 Bud Light drafts, $10 BL pitchers, $4.75 Barefoot wines,$5 Cinnamon Beach Whiskey shots $6.50 Cazadores shots and $7 Gray Goose Vodkas and Electric Sky Wine. Starts at 7 p.m. Smackfest and Sharkeez also hosting the AVP post-party on Sunday starting at 3.
• El Segundo Art Walk
The second of three summertime strolls through El Segundo with artwork and artists (and, in some cases, wine or beer) at local businesses takes place this Thursday. After the first one last month some people complained few places were serving drinks. But they did not know about the beer garden. I suggest starting there first and if it’s good, wind up there at the end.
