Big 10 Pub Crawl, Santa Pub Crawl Singles Holiday Mixer & A Sunday Night Happy Hour

Welcome to the PubClub.com South Bay Party Report!
The Party Report is brought to you by Kona Brewing Company, makers of Kona Longboard, Big Wave Golden Ale, Castaway IPA and other great-tasting beers. Load up for the upcoming holiday house parties and events and look for it in the bars (Shellback, BrewCo, American Junkie, Waterman’s among others).
The Party Report is now also available on YouTube – with a new twist to this week’s video! (Thanks Captain C, for the excellent suggestion).
Okay, we’re rolling into December and warming up for all those holiday parties and events with a few happenings this weekend. Next week is the “biggie,” the 12 Bars of Christmas, King Harbor boat parade and the most spectacular event of them all, the Manhattan Beach Fireworks, this year also featuring Joe’s Band! The week-long weather is all sunny but a bit mild – highs in the mid-60s with lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. We’ve gone from shorts to jeans weather at nite and definitely keep a thick sweatshirt in your bicycle basket!
Here’s the rundown of what’s happening this weekend in the South Bay.
FRIDAY – PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Okay, so USC isn’t in it. But the Trojans have beaten the two teams who are, Colorado and U-Dub. The game is on Fox 11 at 6 p.m.
Yes, kickoff is during Happy Hour! You can get Kona Longboard Lagers for $3 at American Junkie until the end of the game because it has extended Happy Hour on Fridays until 9. U-Dub fans like to watch Huskies games at Hermosa Saloon (2nd & PCH). Of course, the Pigskin Prognosticator has the scoop on what will happen in the game with the winner.
SATURDAY – PUB CRAWLS & A HOLIDAY PARTY
The Big 10 Pub Crawl is Saturday. What’s that you ask? It’s a couple hundred Midwesterners converging on the bars at and around Hermosa’s Pier Plaza in groups of their fellow Big 10 schools alumni. The bars all have drink specials and it ends with the group watching the Big 10 Championship game, which is at 5 o’clock. All are invited to join in; there’s a $10 fee that goes directly to charity. Here’s more:

Of course, at 5, the fine folks from Virginia Tech – some 50 strong – will be in Chelsea Pub for the ACC Championship game starting at 5.
PubClub.com has also gotten wind of a second gathering, a Santa pub crawl, also at the Hermosa pier. So if you don’t know what to do on Saturday afternoon, then get to the Hermosa Pier – you’ll find your fun. And be sure and drink Konas from the aforementioned bars!
And if that’s not enough, the band Barley is playing its first-Saturday-of-the-month gig at Lighthouse from 4-8. What a day at Pier Plaza!
If you’re still standing, or prefer something a little more refined, the 310YP holiday party is Saturday night at Big Door Studio in El Segundo. It’s $15. Sign up for it here (note that this is NOT a casual-dress event):

Also, football season is (thankfully) over for UCLA fans but basketball is heating up and the Bruins travel to Rupp Arena on Saturday to take on #1 Kentucky. The game is on CBS at 9:30 a.m.
#SUNDAYFUNDAY IN HERMOSA BEACH
The Lighting of the Tree takes place at the base of the Hermosa Beach Pier at 6 p.m. This is part of a full day of mostly family-friendly activities and a Toys For Tots charity drive. Jeremy Buck and his All-Star band plays at 5 p.m.
Also Sunday, the bars are full with NFL transplants watching games in American Junkie – a place that serves Kona’s Longboard Lager on tap – Patrick Molloy’s & Sharkeez from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday nite – after the frenzy of the morning and afternoon NFL games are over – Patrick Molloy’s has it’s Sunday night Happy Hour with live music and $4 beers and drinks.
HOLIDAY ICE SKATING RINKS IN LOS ANGELES
The LA Kings are setting up five ice skating rinks in the LA area for the holidays and there is supposed to be one at Seaside Lagoon in Redondo (for a frame of reference, this the same spots as the Super Bowl 10K beer garden). I say “supposed to be” because it’s not there yet. You can go ice skating in Santa Monica at Arizona & Fifth Street and it’s even open until midnight, 10 p.m., after Dec. 19 ($15).
The Kings have set up an ice skating rink at LA Live and there’s also a city rink at Pershing Square downtown.
A LOOK AHEAD TO NEW YEAR’S EVE IN THE SOUTH BAY
A few people have asked me about this and yes, Berry Bly is having his NYE party at the Portofino. Tickets are now on sale for $45. His Halloween party was outstanding and no doubt this one will be, as well. That’s cheaper than some bars are likely to charging on that night.
