A few dozen? Couple of hundred? Perhaps even a thousand?
It’s likely not as big as this one, the beer garden at the finish of the annual Super Bowl 10K fun run in Redondo Beach, CA.
With more than 8,000 runners, the Super Bowl 10K is one of the largest 10Ks on the West Coast. But it’s not a serious run. It starts out in the morning with a costume contest. And it ends with people drinking Michelob Ultras in the beer garden. This makes it the USA’s largest Super Bowl party.
And it is in that beer garden where the big Super Bowl party occurs. Not all the runners go to it, but many of them do, making for a couple thousand people gathered for a common cause: To drink beer after running!
For sexy singles of the South Bay’s Beach Cities (Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach) it’s the first of the day’s many mingling opportunities, and they stay until the last beer is consumed. It’s outdoor in a lagoon by the Pacific Ocean, near a bunch of bars – the Hermosa Beach Pier, in particular – the weather is usually sunny and warm (it’s going to be mid-70s this year), and that’s a better combination than Mathew Stafford to Cooper Kupp.
Actually, it’s really a huge Super Bowl pre-party, considering it goes from roughly 9 a.m.-11:30 (appx.). In 2012, Michelob Ultra is bringing in a DJ and that will only add to the party scene.
And it sets up what is a super Sunday in the South Bay, for there are bars and house parties for the game, as well as after the game. Being on the West Coast, the Super Bowl goes from about 3 p.m.-8 p.m, so there’s still some good partying do be done after the confetti spray.
Super Bowl parties are great, and this one is one of the biggest and best in the USA. And, if you’re run the 10K – there’s also a 5K walk/run – then no matter how much beer (or chips) you put into your system the rest of the day, your body is at least at a break-even point.
It’s one of the events PubClub.com likes to refer to as “exercise and socialize.”
