Russian Imperial Espresso Stout Takes Gold At World Beer Championships

As Monterey, CA, continues to gain notoriety for its wines, a craft brewery is brewing up award-winning beers.
Peter B’s Brewpub won a Gold medal for its Russian Imperial Espresso Stout at the World Beer Championships and two Bronze medals for its Barrel Aged Stout and Whiskey Barrel Aged Stout.
Peter B’s is a bar/restaurant located behind the Portola Hotel & Spa in downtown Monterey, just up from Fisherman’s Village.
Russian Imperial Espresso Stout was described by the The Beverage Tasting Institute (BTI) as having aromas of roasted espresso, soy beans, chocolate, dried fruits and nuts with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium-full body and a tangy, chocolate grapefruit peel, burnt chocolate chip walnut cookies and grass driven finish. It is a richly flavorful and nicely hopped IS.
BTI gave the beer a total rating of 90 points and classified it as “Exceptional.”
The Chardonnay Barrel Aged Stout was described as a beer with aromas of chocolate, nuts and peppers and a dry medium body. While the Whiskey Barrel Aged Stout was said to have a fig and peppery spic flavor with undertones of caramel. The beer is described as having a soft, dry-yet-fruity light-to-medium body and cocoa, cappuccino, whole nut finish.
