Second Annual Monterey Beer Garden Features A Dozen Craft Brewers on Sept. 22

You may think of Monterey, CA, as a wine area.
It largely an accurate assumption. With wine tasting rooms in the city and Cannery Row and vineyards a few miles away, Monterey County is making a push to be recognized as a true California wine country.
But it’s also becoming a prolific craft beer area. That can be evident – and sampled – at Peter B’s Brewpub behind the Portola Hotel & Spa, which brews its own beer on site.
And on September 22, Peter B’s is one of a dozen breweries participating in the second annual Monterey Beer Garden in the historic Memory Garden at Custom House Plaza. That’s right out of Peter B’s door.
The event takes place from noon-4 p.m. It cost $40 and that includes beer samples from craft breweries in the area and a BBQ prepared by Portola Hotel & Spa’s Executive Chef Jason Giles (I can speak from personal experience as to the expertise of Executive Chef Jason Giles’ kitchen skills). There’s also live music by a band called Cheeky Spanks.
The featured breweries are:
Peter B’s Brewpub
Boulder Creek Brewing Co.
Faultline Brewing Co.
Campbell Brewing Co.
Uncommon Brewers
English Ales
Tied House/Hermitage Brewery
Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery
Seabright Brewery
Drake’s Brewing
Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery

Portola Hotel & Spa has also teamed up with The Offset Project, a 501-(c)3 non-profit community organization on the Monterey Peninsula, to encourage a zero waste event. The beer poured at the event will be provided by breweries located at a maximum of 150 miles from Memory Gardens, and the plates and cups used at the event are made of recycled material and are biodegradable.
