Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach Bars Are Pouring These Good Brews

Looking for a new craft beer to try in the South Bay?
Then let me suggest Goose Island, the Chicago specialty brewery that is making a big splash nationally. Currently the bars serving it in the South Bay are: BrewCo and Shellback Tavern in Manhattan Beach and American Junkie in Hermosa Beach.
At the latter, it’s just $3 during Happy Hour, which is every day from 3-7 p.m., and also during all Lakers, Clippers and Kings games. And Junkie, by the way, has just extended its Happy Hour on Fridays until 9 p.m.
Goose Island is easy to spot. Its tap is a white neck and the bright yellow beak of a goose.

It has several types of beer and the ones in the South Bay are primarily Honker’s Ale, India Pale Ale and 312. Honker’s Ale – which is at American Junkie – is my personal favorite, a dark-looking beer with a light but full-flavor taste. India Pale Ale is a tad heaver.
Besides the great flavor, what I like about both is that there is none of that hoppy aftertaste you normally get with heavier beers (I’m primarily a lager drinker). The Goose Island beers are so smooth, you are ready for another sip right after you’ve just had a sip.
And frankly, is that not exactly what all us beer drinkers seek in our beer!?
The 312 is a wheat beer. Personally, I’m not much on wheat beers and have yet to try it, but considering how much I like the ales, then it’s probably pretty tasty, too.
Goose Island also has a stout, and it’s likely to be making an appearance soon. Check for it at Waterman’s in Hermosa Beach, which has a number of fine craft beers on draft (try Drifter Pale Ale sometime!).
