North End And Silvo’s Are LA’s Top Game-Watching Locations For Stanley Cup Playoffs
Where’s Hockey USA, West Coast version?
It’s in Hermosa Beach, CA, which is a much more than a long slap shot away from any ice but has two busy game-watching bars for fans of both teams in the NHL’s Stanley Cup Western Conference Finals Playoffs.
After the LA Kings’ improbable run to the Stanley Cup Championship last year, is well documented in Los Angeles that The North End is puck central for the local team. It’s the players’ neighborhood bar and they often go there after home games, playoffs or regular season.
This cozy hangout is a casual beachside bar that’s bordering on a dive, but is not quite a dive. And for Kings games, it really comes alive. To get in, get there at least half an hour before the start of games. It’s located on the Hermosa-Manhattan Beach border at what us locals know as “5 points,” on Hermosa Ave., across from El Gringo.
But it may surprise you to learn that the Blackhawks fans have a bar they go to, as well. And it, too, is in Hermosa Beach.
It’s Silvio’s on the HB Pier. This small Brazilian restaurant becomes Chicago West during key games involving any big game involving a team from that friendly Midwestern city. It’s the home of a local group started by people from Chicago who live in L.A.
Silvio’s is about half the size of The North End so I recommend getting there at least half an hour before the start of the games.
So yes, the place to party in LA during the NHL semifinals is Hemosa Beach.
Cheers!
