‘Plugged In’ Series Is Held Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the new 5 Towers Concert Plaza
Music is one of Los Angeles’ greatest assets. Not matter where you go in the city, the quality of the local musicians – whether they are playing original tunes or familiar covers – is outstanding. The Sunset Strip has certainly played a role in attracting and developing talent, but it ranges far beyond that famous part of the city; it’s all over the Southland.
And each weekend, from now thru the end of August, Universal Studios is showcasing local Los Angeles bands at its new outdoor concert plaza, “5 Towers.” It’s part of a series of shows on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at CityWalk. These “Plugged In” shows, as they are called, run from 7-10 p.m., and are free to the public.
Fridays predominately feature up-and-coming bands from L.A., from 98.7-FM’s “Close to Home” music showcase.
Saturdays have a variety of music with this as the lineup: Chasing Avalance and Alien Ant Farm (July 9), Carolina Liar (July 16), Jessie Payo and Shytown (July 23), Stealing Heather (July 30), Evolove and Dilana (Aug. 6), Vybrantion and NBC’s “The Sing Off” finalists The Beackbeats (Aug. 13), Ernie Halter and Thomas Nicholas Band (Aug. 20).
Sundays provide a Latin flair. They are televised on Telemundo and have “telenovela” stars plus contests and giveaways. These shows run from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
