Local Manhattan Beach Band Rocks Saint Rocke South Bay Music Club
There are good bands and there are entertaining bands. Occasionally, along comes a band that is both, and that’s what’s so fun about seeing Sand Section.
The guys are tight, Jeff Nisen can flat-out play guitar (it would be great to see him cut loose with Little Jimmy at Pancho’s), the congas add a nice flair to the surf/reggae sound, and they keep throwing in new and interesting elements, the latest of which is a female fiddle player.
And so, when Sand Section played Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach on a Friday in June, it was a night high on energy but more of a beach dance party.
This local band, named after the “sand section” residential area of Manhattan Beach, is a garage band of friends in their early 20s, already with a beer sponsor (Bud Light) that is going places.
In fact, it’s going to Cabo San Lucas for a series of private shows the end of the month, then to San Diego. And it’s been places, having completed a tour last fall that hit several cities and towns in the Western U.S.
So when they play at places like Saint Rocke, it’s a real treat for locals. On this night, people sang, they danced and they drank. Saint Rocke is the ideal venue for it all; it’s nice, has an ample stage, enough room to dance and brings in people for its popular Happy Hour ($5 food and drinks, M-F, 5-7:30 p.m.) that like to stay for the live music.

Loved your article regarding Sand Section playing at St. Rocke in Hermosa Beach; however, you misspelled the word “they’re.” It was spelled “their.” No, I’m not an English teacher, but wanted to point this out to you.
