America Needs Her To Be Single For Next Year’s Winter Olympic Games
Lindsey Vonn, America’s sweetheart on skis, tore up her knee and broke her leg in a massive accident in the FIS Alpine Ski Championships opener. There’s a chance she’s out of next winter’s Olympics, which start in exactly a year. (In a statement, Vonn says she is optimistic she will be back for the Sochi Games.)
Can we blame this on Tiger Woods?
Within months of her dating him, she suffers a season-ending accident. Coincidence? I think not.
Here’s what I think happened. She caught him fooling around and, lacking a golf club, resorted to what she does best and started chasing him on skis. So furious was she, that she didn’t notice that bump, caught an edge on landing and crashed.
Closer to the truth is that she may have felt extra pressure to win this event because of Tiger. After all, he just won a tournament and athletes are very competitive, so maybe she was pushing a bit too much, wanting win at her sport so he could not have one up on her.
Maybe, from her hospital bed in Aspen, she will realize there’s bad karma being with Woods.
Vonn and Woods are an oil-and-water mix anyway as a couple. They go together like Squirt diet soda and rum (that’s a reference to a recent survey on alcohol and soda alcohol; click here for my take on it).
Assuming Vonn is back for the Olympics, she needs to be single. You know, going up to the chair lift, bypassing the lines, and saying “single!”
Americans (us males, anyway) want to root for her because she’s a good-looking girl and us single guys think that if she knew us, she would dig us. Women might even root against her if she’s still with Woods because the married ones don’t like him.
But here’s wishing Lindsey a speedy recovery.
She proved to be a tough, gritty gal at the Vancouver Olympics and won Gold. I was there in Whistler and saw her downhill run. She was married then, too, totally off the market.
If I wind up in Sochi and she’s still dating Woods, he’s likely to get distracted by a waitress and I might have a chance to get her attention. Well, it’s nice to dream, right?
