More and more of us will be stepping off the hard stuff over the coming months, for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, Dry January is one of the most popular times of year to give up the booze and have a bit of an alcohol detox, while many will be looking to give up the substance for good. There’s been no better time to do it, especially if you’re a lover of beer, with a non-alcoholic market that is under a true revolution.
Dozens of the best breweries around the world are really perfecting their recipes for non or low alcohol, and here are the best you should be trying over the coming 12 months…
Lucky Saint
Lucky Saint is a UK-based brand, although they actually brew in Germany, and it’s really hitting the ground running in Europe, not only in the bottled market, but also on draught. It’s rare you find a non-alcoholic beer on tap, but Lucky Saint is offering that and it tastes fantastic.
It’s leading the way with its rich, malty taste and is the perfect lager replacement.
Lervig No Worries
Lervig are a huge craft beer brand that are producing some amazing beers at the moment, including the very sessionable House Party. However, you’ll have no worries with No Worries, their alcohol free beer that is a real powerhouse of a punch.
It’s hopped lightly and is a refreshing pale ale style beer, with plenty of floral notes. It’s like a Lervig pale, except you can have a few and still drive home.
Brooklyn Special Effects
Brooklyn was one of the early craft beer originators to go global and the US brewery has been working hard on their non-alcoholic selection over recent years. Special Effects is what’s out there on the market at present and you’ll see it in many shops and bars around the world today.
It’s 0.4%, so not completely free of alcohol, but it’s a fantastic low alcohol IPA, with a great aroma and has a solid malt base.
Thornbridge Zero Five
Thornbridge became world renowned for their beer Jaipur, which picked up a number of awards, including World’s Best Beer. That’s a pretty hefty 5.9%, however. Zero Five, their new low alcohol beer is an American style pale ale that is juicy in flavour and has notes of pach and apricot.
It’s, as you can probably guess, 0.5%, and it took a while for the UK-based brewery to get it right, originally disposing of their first four batches because it wasn’t quite right. It is now, and it’s the perfect beer to get your Dry January up and running.
