It’s a great thing when a girl comes to visit a guy in his apartment. For one thing, she has decided to leave the comfort and security of her place to come to yours, so there’s a certain level of trust on her part.
But it can also be a double-edged sword. If she finds a guy’s apartment to be messy, unclean and lacking basic things, she’s likely to never return. So, tapping into my years of experience in this matter, here are my top things to know to prepare a guy’s apartment for when a girl visits you.
This applies to a girl you’ve recently met, whom you might have gone out with a couple of times or were set up by a friend or someone at work.
The first rule in having a girl in your bachelor pad is the same as in business: you only have one chance to make a first impression. Make it count.
Clean Your Apartment
Clean the place. Especially the bathroom, kitchen and refrigerator. These are the key places where yuck accumulates and are the first places she checks. She is correct in that if a guy’s apartment is a mess then the guy probably is, too.
Clean every detail. Get on your hands and knees and wipe around and in the toilet and make sure the sink is clean in the bathroom. Girls will go in there and look for things.
In the kitchen, make sure all the dishes are washed and put away in the cabinets. Wipe down the counters and the stove. And please, please clean your refrigerator. If she opens it and sees something gross in there, you probably won’t ever recover from it.
Make Your Bed
This is, after all, your ultimate goal, getting her into your bedroom. Make sure the bed is made and if you’ve got a cover blanket or comforter, put it on the bed. Better yet if you’ve got any big pillows. Girls love pillows for some reason.
Make Sure There’s Furniture
I’m not suggesting to go out and buy a couch or anything extreme but do have a couple of places for her to sit. Some guys I’ve known have have had places so bare they only have a lawn/beach chair for living room furniture. That’s an instant turnoff for girls.
Have Pictures Or Artwork On The Walls
Don’t have bare walls. Girls like to look at artwork and photos. It doesn’t have to be anything complex or expensive, just enough for her to see. Put out family pictures (it shows your sensitive side) or lively lifestyle photos. This shows your fun side.
Pictures and artwork have another advantage: they can take a girl’s attention away from any untidiness or other elements, such as mismatched furniture, a hallmark of guys apartments. For many years, I had the unfair advantage of living at the beach so the first thing I did was take the girl out to the porch. That view is what she always remembered about the apartment. Now, I have a tiki bar, filled with all kinds of booze. That is the focal point of my place and is a very good conversation piece, especially with all the tiki signs and things on and around it.
This actually reminds me that I need to put a photo I took of Mykonos in the Greek Islands back up before a girl comes to my place for the first time tonite.
Have A Girl Friend (Two Words) Check Out Your Apartment
We all have girl friends (two words, not one) whom we have known for a while that are close pals. They are usually girls we’ve tried to sleep with a hundred times (haha, you guys know what I mean) but eventually realized she wants to be “just friends,” tho of course you always hold out home that one day, it will happen.
Anyway, back to the point, have a girl friend come over and check out your bachelor pad before your date. She will point out several things you overlooked or didn’t even notice about your guy’s apartment. That’s happened to me a lot; when I think I’ve cleaned everything a girl will find the ONE THING that I overlooked. A girl friend can spot those things for you.
With this helpful tip, when your date shows up you will be calm and confident in knowing your place has been “chick approved.”
Conclusion
It doesn’t take much to make a guy’s apartment acceptable to girls. But it does take a little effort. And it could be well worth it because if she find it – as well as you –to her liking, she will be back again.
