It is now almost a cliché to say that the coronavirus has wreaked havoc in everyone’s life and all industries. San Franciscans have had their lives turned upside down with the closure of businesses, including metros and restaurants.

However, as the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases decline, things are looking up. Restaurants with outdoor seating will soon resume business with the passing of the ordinance waiving fees for businesses with outdoor seating. This legislation is a clear sign that the time of being permanently cooped up indoors and living on takeout and delivered food could be over soon.

It may be too early to call it, but your entertainment too could be outdoors soon. Either way, don’t let the outdoor seating ruin your sports night.  If you have a streaming device, you can watch the local game and monitor your sports betting plays. There’s nothing like enjoying a nice meal, some fresh air, and winning big.  Here are some of the top eating places with outdoor seating that you can check out when they open.

1. La Mar

La Mar is a prime spot to go to on a special day. The restaurant was inspired by Peruvian cebicherías and serves the best cebiche and an assortment of sea cuisine. Be sure to make a reservation early enough.

Location: Pier 1.5 The Embarcadero, lamarsf.com

2. Vega Pizzeria

Vega Pizzeria stayed open and offered takeout and delivery throughout. The restaurant offers fantastic Italian cuisine, including Capellini al granchio and Pizza al quatro formaggi. Their sidewalk seating is calm and serene, and service there is highly rated.

Location: 419 Cortland Ave

3. Starbelly

Starbelly is most famous as a friendly neighborhood spot for weekend brunches. It has reopened with extended sidewalk eating after the mandatory quarantine closure. This restaurant is the place to go to for bottomless mimosas and caviar with friends.

Location: 3583 16th St.

4. Old Skool Café

Despite the name, Old Skool Café is a youth-run eating club offering family-inspired dishes and deliveries. It is located on the Bayview at Hunter’s Point. Their patio dining is revamped with more seating for large groups.

Location: 1429 Mendell St., oldskoolcafe.org

5. Chambers

Chambers is a hip oasis for models and rock stars at the back patio of the Phoenix Hotel. The seating is exquisite and well-spaced. Their biggest attraction is the poolside service of dinner and drinks. Make a reservation on their website if you are planning a poolside dinner.

Location: 601 Eddy St., chambers-sf.com

6. Bayshore Taqueria

Craving some Mexican burritos or fajita salad? Bayshore Taqueria has reopened their covered patio to enable you to enjoy their affordable Mexican delicacies in the open air. The restaurant continues to deliver and offers special discounts for select meals.

Location: 300 Bayshore Blvd Suite A

7. Waterbar

The outside seating at the Waterbar is limited, so you have to plan and make a reservation. Aside from their diverse menu, the restaurant offers amazingly tranquil dining on the waterfront. You can now reserve outdoor lunch and dinner or order takeaway on their website.

Location: 399 The Embarcadero, waterbarsf.com

8. Fiorella

Fiorella has two locations that just reopened with outdoor patios. The design of their seating is minimalistic but inspiring, with heat lamps to keep away San Francisco’s foggy freeze. Both locations are perfect for eating out with friends and family.

Locations: 2339 Clement St. and 2238 Polk St.

9. Zazie

Zazie, the much-praised romantic restaurant on Cole street, is back in business. The classic bistro has resumed its weekdays’ brunches, served between 8 am and 2 pm and outdoor dinners between 5 and 9.30 pm Sunday to Thursdays. They also take online orders on their website.

Location: 941 Cole St., zaziesf.com

10. Progressive Grounds

Famous coffee shop Progressive Grounds is ready to serve your business and casual meetings with the much-needed caffeine. The café also serves breakfast, bagel and sandwiches, smoothies, and pastries every day.

Location: 400 Cortland Ave

Parting Advice

Before you dash out, there is still a lot you need to know about eating in San Francisco restaurants right now. Most restaurants are not yet open for business, but with the special permission allowing outdoor seating, we expect they will soon resume business.

While you can eat out every day, it is highly recommended that you stay at home or order food to go. The coronavirus is still spreading, and no one should be outside unless they absolutely have to be. When you go out, remember to wear your mask!
