I’m cruising.

But I’m not on an ocean.

Or a lake or river for that matter.

I’m actually in Beverly Hills. That’s where the Cruise Lines Industry Association’s West Coast Media Marketplace takes place, and I’m one of the journalists who has been invited to it.

This is a series of individual meetings with cruise lines officials and is an excellent opportunity to learn – and write about– any new trends for 2019 and the future, what individual cruise lines have planned, any new ships or themes or features or any other stories I can dig up while at the event.

I’m meeting with Ama Waterways, Holland America, the Cruise Lines Industry Association, Carnival Cruise Lines, Windstar Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Lines.

After this, there is a mixer, which is a great place to follow up on previous conversations and to get to know and bond with fellow travel journalists.

The cruise industry is one area of travel where I’ve not focused a lot of attention on with regards to what I write about and cover on PubClub.com. This is because I’ve never been on a cruise so don’t know a lot about what it’s like to take a trip on a cruise ship.

I have been on boats a lot. I’ve been on the 10-day Interline Regatta in the British Virgin Islands, where I’ve stayed on a sailboat catamaran for the whole time. When I go to Carmel and Monterey, CA, I always stay at least a few days on my friend’s boat in Monterey Bay.

I’ve even been on the Queen Mary and spent a few nights on her.

But none of that is like being on a moving cruise ship. Which is why going to theCruise Lines Industry Association’s West Coast Media Marketplace is such a valuable learning experience for me.
