Hot Weather Scorching North America – Even At The LA Beaches

Dogs are panting, flies are passing out and people are standing still as if afraid to make any kind of move that will even slightly raise their body temperature.
North America and other parts of the world are going through a heatwave and while I had planned to use this space to write about some travel adventure or fun destination, I can’t because it’s just too danged hot to write about travel!
It was 107 degrees in Toronto the other day, is 108 in Las Vegas and 115 in Palm Springs. Heck, it’s even 90 degrees here at the beach in Los Angeles and that’s baking.
Now you may accuse me of being a weather wimp and that’s okay because I freely admit that I am, but 90 degrees t the beach with no cooling ocean breeze makes it nearly impossible go escape the heat because no houses here have air conditioning.
That’s right, no A/C. If we want it, we have to go to a store. Some bars don’t even have it.
The TV weather folks will be telling people who are sweltering downtown and in the valleys to “go to the beach.” But let me assure you that you won’t get much relief sitting on the hot sand with no breeze and the sun beating down on you. The Pacific Ocean is a nice cooling temperature – low 70s – but that only offers a brief respite.
And in order to write, I need to be comfortable. Well, more to the point, in order to be inspired to write I need to be comfortable.
All of us, of course, have been in hot destinations in our travels. During one of my trips, it was so hot and sweaty in Thailand, I would stand in front of the air conditioner for several minutes before departing my hotel room and that was the first thing I would do when I returned to it.
Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’m off to go stick my head in the freezer for a few moments.
Cheers!
