Wine On The Rails Makes Swiss Traveling A Relaxing Pleasure
One of the great thrills of being in Switzerland – for me, anyway – is going from place to to place.
Because that means traveling by train, and in Switzerland it’s the best way to get around the country.
Top Reasons For Traveling By Train In Switzerland
This is because of a few reasons. First, the trains run on time. To the very minute on time. So you never have to worry about making a connection or getting to a spot at a particular time because you can plan things out one time and know it will happen.
Another factor is that the destinations are so close to one another; you can be at a new destination sometimes in less than an hour, or go from one end of the country to the other in about three hours.
And then there’s the scenery. You just sit back and watch the countryside, or the mountains, rivers or cities and towns, go by silently out the big windows.
Plus – and this is the best part – you can bring wine on the trains! Stop in a store by or at the station, pick up a bottle of Swiss wine (which you can’t get anywhere but in Switzerland), pop it open and enjoy the ride. (Just be sure and have a cup or two in which to pour the wine.)
You can even make new friends by offering them some wine.
The trains are so smooth and quiet, and with that rolling scenery, it’s almost like being in a moving painting.
And before you know it, you’re at your destination. In a way, I kind of want to keep going – at least until I run out of wine – but in Switzerland I’m usually on the go every couple of days and I know I’ll be on the train again, experiencing a form of travel that I don’t get back home in the USA.
And especially where I live in Los Angeles, where any journey involves fighting traffic on the freeways.
Now that I think about it, maybe that’s why I really enjoy the Swiss trains so much – I don’t have to drive, and travel is so much more enjoyable when you can relax during the journey.
Especially when you’ve got wine.
