The Star-Studded Launch Party And A Magazine Review
The 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is out and Irma’s and WALL at W South Beach in Miami held a launch party that included two-time cover model Tyra Banks, Camille Kostek and her boyfriend Rob Gronkowski,
Gronkowski played the role of good boyfriend by acting as the “bouncer” at the VIP section of SI Swimsuit model’s roped-off area at WALL.
At the time time, Olivia Culpo had a her birthday celebration and enjoyed a surprise birthday cake, as her fellow models sang happy birthday.
All 31 SI Swimsuit models, including Banks, will be at the Ice Palace until Saturday for the SI Swimsuit On Location pop-up. Tickets here: SwimsuitOnLocation.com
Ironically, the day after this party my Swimsuit Issue arrived at another beach city across the country (Redondo Beach, CA). And quite frankly, I was disappointed in it.
For starters, when I opened it up I was greeted by two obese and unattractive women on the inside cover and first page. Granted it was for an ad but it’s not the first thing I expected to see upon opening the magazine.
Two page flips later, I was greeted by a seductive pose of Samantha Hoopes in a leopard-skin bikini with posed on her knees in the ocean and I let out a “now that’s more like it” comment to my friends, who were with me at the time.
Banks, by the way, was not on my cover. It was Camille Kostek.
Elsewhere there were the usual girls-in-bikini-by-a-beach shots and a snake wrapped aruond a model’s shoulders but also some other “politically correct” ones, such as Halima Aden in a full-length body suit, complete with a hoodie. Er, is this not the swimsuit issue?
I also found the photos of lesbian soccer player Megan Rapinoe to be hideous. Another athlete, however, Lindsey Vonn, looked outstanding.
Paulina Porizkova looked outstanding.
If I decided to keep this issue – as is kind of a tradition of mine, tho I rarely if ever go back and look at them again – then I’ll just flip to pages 68 and 69 to admire the four photos of Paige VanZant.
