Is Steve Spurrier Trading One USC For Another?

October 12, 2015 by kevinwilkerson 2 Comments

South Carolina Coach Suddenly Retires After Trojans Fire Steve Sarkisian; Hmm

Steve Spurrier
Steve Spurrier has been number one with a National Championship on his resume.

Pure speculation here but why not, right?

Steve Spurrier suddenly retires – effective immediately – the same day that Southern California fires Steve Sarkisian.

Could he be going from one USC to the other USC?

It’s not necessarily as crazy as it sounds. Spurrier needs a new jolt and USC needs a proven coach.

Sure, Spurrier is 70 and the East Coast USC hasn’t been competitive in two years. But he’s been there too long and things have gone stale. A fierce competitor like him may not be able to pass up the opportunity to take over a team that has enough talent to win, win big, and win right now.

The Trojans need a leader, someone the players can look up to, and Athletic Director Pat Haden needs to make a “splash” hire to get the attention and support of the big boosters. And to save his job.

Haden can’t do John Robinson III so why not Steve Spurrier I? It sure would be a radical move, and that may be just what the Trojans – and Spurrier – need at this time.

At this point everyone understands your take on what good college football players should do as it relates to their elegibility and when they should stop playing football for free. The problem is that this has absolutely nothing to do with Spurrier retiring and your suggestion that it does is a huge stretch.

Hmmmmm indeed! The USC’s are very near and dear to my heart…one being my husbands, the other, mine. So I would love to see such a merger of sorts of the USC talents! However, we have to consider Spurriers age…taking on such a dynamic team in such a dynamic school and city would I think require more youth and vitality – but on the other hand, how have those things been going for USC (soCal) lately?! Maybe the experience and guidance of a seasoned coach would be a wise change………?
