Hermosa Beach Returns As Tour Goes From New York To California

The tour begins May 4-7 in Huntington Beach, visits New York City on June 8-11, revisits Hermosa Beach for the first time in years on July 20-23 and of course includes the “Wimbledon of beach volleyball,” the Manhattan Open in Manhattan Beach, CA, on Aug. 17-20.
The tour also includes stops in Austin (May 18-21), Seattle (June 22-25), San Francisco (July 6-9) and concludes in Chicago during Labor Day Weekend (Aug. 31-Sept. 3).
This is an American tour primarily for USA players, and for the “biggies” (in particular the Manhattan Beach Open) it’s common to see the world’s top players and teams peel off from the international FIBA tour to play in AVP tournaments.
The big news is the tour’s return to Hermosa Beach. The Los Angeles South Bay neighbor of Manhattan Beach, it long ranked as the second-most popular tournament when the tour was at its peak in the 80s and 90s.
The community loves beach volleyball and there’s some type of tournament nearly every weekend, but the recreational players stop their play to watch the pros when they are in town. This is sure to be a big party weekend, too, with bars all along the Hermosa Beach Pier packed to their party capacity.
