Fans of Alabama, Clemson, Michigan State and Oklahoma have their New Year’s Eve plans set for 2015.
They will either be in Dallas or Miami, or glued to a television set at home, at a friend’s house or perhaps an alumni bar in their hometown city.
The College Football Playoff committee has selected those four teams to play in the second playoff, and the games are on New Year’s Eve.
Alabama will face Michigan State at “Jerry’s World” in Dallas at 8 p.m. ET, while Clemson and OU will play at 4 p.m., in the Orange Bowl outside of Miami (it’s actually closer to Ft. Lauderdale than South Beach).
Alabama and Clemson opened as slight favorites.
After each, there’s sure to be lots of fireworks for fans of the winning teams. For all fans, it will make for a different kind of NYE – one that’s intense and then either followed by celebration or sorrow.
In a quirk of scheduling, the semifinals are played on New Year’s Eve, which other top but insignificant to determining college football’s champion, are played on New Year’s Day. Those are the Peach Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Sugar Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl.
The winners of the two playoff games will meet for college football’s National Championship on Jan. 11 at the University of Phoenix Stadium (home of the Arizona Cardinals) outside of Phoenix.
