Classic Hockey Watering Holes For Fans Of The Stanley Cup Contenders
Sports bars and hockey go together like, well, the ice rink and a puck.
And during the playoffs, everything is cranked up an notch for the fans, as well as the players.
With that in mind, here are the top sports bars to drink in for the 2019 NHL Playoffs. The ones listed here are in the cities and towns of the top teams most likely to make the Stanley Cup Finals.
As of today, the teams with the best odds of winning the 2019 Stanley Cup are Tampa Bay, San Joe, St. Louis, Vegas, Carolina, Boston, Nashville, Calgary, Toronto and Washington.
• Hattricks Tavern, Tampa Bay Lightening
This downtown sports bar opened the same time as Amalie Arena, home of the Lightening. Like most sports bars it has a bunch of TVs and while its location is perfect for fans, there’s another reason it is a top bar: it has two Happy Hours. The first is 4-8 and the other 10-close. Beers are as cheap as $2.25 and there are specials on beer buckets, plus 2-4-1 cocktails and wings.
• The Brit, San Jose Sharks
This downtown bar is for the die-hards and believe it or not, San Jose has quite a few die-hard hockey fans. It has a Happy Hour fro 4-7 for those early playoff games.
• Over/Under Bar & Grill, St. Louis Blues
This downtown bar, close to the Enterprise Center, has a gigantic screen and an outdoor patio for when the weather is nice.
• Flying Saucer, Carolina Hurricanes
Here, in downtown Raleigh, you can have pre- and post-game food and drinks and then take the free Pepsi Caniac Coach to the arena. Or just stay there for the game.
Blondies Sports Bar & Grill, Las Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas is hot for hockey! And local fans like going to this sports bar in the Miracle Mile Shops. It’s not on The Strip or anything but despite being in the big touristy section, it has a enough of a well-worn sports bar feel about it to make this list. And It could again be packed all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals.
• Bailey’s Pub & Grill, Nashville Predators
This one makes the list because it’s on Broadway in the heart of downtown and after the games you can go out to all the honky tonks with all that live music. Plus, it has a patio where you can watch the game on nice days.
• Sullivan’s Tap, Boston Bruins
The Boston Globe calls this bar a “no brainer.” It’s a cash only dive bar on Canal Street that’s just want you want while in Boston.
• Garage Sports Bar, Calgary Flames
How could you not want to hang out in a place called the Garage Sports Bar? Located in Eau Claire Market, it has good food, too.
• The Green Turtle, Washington Capitols
This is where fans go before and after the games because it’s close to the arena. If you don’t have a ticket, just find a barstool in the suddenly empty bar and wait for the fans to return after the game.
The Dock Ellis, Toronto Maple Leafs
A “hip” sports bar – in other words, not a dive – in hockey-mad Toronto, this bar has a rotating beer selection primarily from Ontario’s craft breweries. It is also know for a food, including “ridiculous” nachos as one reviewer wrote about it.
