Spend The 4th Of July Weekend On The California Slopes

Mammoth Mountain provides plenty to smile about on a year-round basis.

While much of America will be spending the Fourth of July Weekend at lakes, rivers and beaches from sea to shining sea, some in California will be putting on skis or snowboards and hitting the hills.

Mammoth Mountain is open for Main Lodge skiing and boarding thru July 4, which is on a Monday in 2016. Mammoth anticipates “top to bottom” skiing subject, of course, to conditions.

The mountain will be closed to winter sports on Tuesday, July 5,

It’s common for Mammoth to be open into June and extending the season until the Fourth provides a chance to extend spring skiing into the early summer. You won’t need your red, white or blue heavy ski jacket, but rather a t-shirt with an American flag would be more appropriate attire.

The Main Lodge, Tusks bar and the Yodler will be open for the 4th, while Canyon Lodge, Eagle Lodge and The Mill will be closed.

The price of a single-day lift ticket is $63; a two-day ticket is $126 and a three-day ticket is $168. There are no black-out dates and you get five bring-a-friend one-day tickets for 50% off, excluding holidays.

Speaking of lift ticket prices, the Cali4nia season passes for 2016-17 are now on sale. The prices are $849 for adults (ages 23-64). The youth pass (ages 13-22) is $649.

During July 4 weekend, expect daytime temperatures in the 60s, with lows in the 50s.

Check the weather and ski conditions and accommodations packages (for stays only at official Mammoth Mountain properties) at the Mammoth Mountain website.

The end of the ski season hardly means the end of the activities in Mammoth. During July and August there are a number of events, highlighted by the Festival of Beers & Bluesaplooza the weekend of Aug. 4-7.
